Kappa Phi Kappa – The Ohio State University Jeremy Radovanic - President: Welcome Back to an exciting new semester! I am glad to be finally getting back into swing of things! It is crazy how the summer flew by and before we know it, it will be time to start back up with some KPKrazyness! Meeting Dates and Times:
KPK Involvement Fair: Here is the official sign up for the Student Involvement Fair! It is important to have your help as this is one of the biggest ways that we market KPK! In saying so, we are offering ONE bonus point as long as you stay for at least TWO hours at the KPK booth. This year, check in will be from 2pm-3pm and the fair officially starts at 4pm-7pm. Please let Molly Phillips.1603 know if you have any questions. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfHNOD_Zto371nbYLVpl-HVfdcYAksC1-ahGC4DoPhdcll55Q/viewform Jen Roach - Vice President: Looking forward to seeing everyone back this semester!! Start earning points with the events planned early on this semester! Katie Chillinsky – Secretary: Hello all you KPKuties!! As we all know, summer is almost over and we are getting ready to start up a new school year! (Sorry I’m that future teacher that has to rub the end of summer in your face) The KPK e-board wanted to send a quick little email to say a quick “hi!” and let everyone feel prepared to start back with all the info needed to know to get back in the swing with our KPKrazy fun! Look for weekly newsletter like this every Sunday to help you fill out your calendar with all the important events and info to thrive this semester! I even might a few hidden surprises in the newsletters for a treat at the meetings for everyone!! Emily Walters – Social: Welcome back, KPKers! Over the summer I’ve been drumming up some really great ideas for socials. This semester we’ll be kayaking, taking a tour of the ‘Shoe, and for the first time ever there will be a KPK Date Party! I’m very open to adding socials throughout the semester so that KPK can grow to be more inclusive and driven toward the members! Here are the *tenative* dates along with the first few events this semester: The first annual Back to School Bash will be the first event of the semester, taking place on 8/31, where members can gather for a carry-in, and possibly a bonfire! I am currently trying to lock down a place to do this that’s more central to campus! KPK Meets the ‘Shoe on either 9/5 or 9/26 (both are Tuesdays). It’s a 90 minute guided tour of the stadium. They have low availabilities, so it looks like we will be limited to starting the tour in the late morning. There will be a spreadsheet to come to compare availability for the members! KPKayak will be taking place on either the 9th or the 10th, and we will be doing this through Olentangy Paddle, which means we will have to sign a wavier and this is something that we will have to pay for and show up for as a group. There will be more discussion on this during the first meeting/in an online poll to see what fits the majority best! Walk and Watch: Before the meeting on 9/11 we will be taking a stroll on the Olentangy River Water Trail next to campus. Mallory Reed & Lauren Kinsey - Service: Come and show your KPKindness this year by signing up for community - based service events. KPK will be serving the Columbus area through baking, blanket making, and more! Ronald McDonald House Baking will take place on September 13th at 6:00 p.m. A group of KPKers will carpool to the event and bake for residents and families. Baking supplies will be provided at the Ronald McDonald House. Bring your favorite recipes to make and boxed mixes are recommended. A carpool and further information will be provided closer to the date. KPK will also hold a School Supply Drive in September and there will be group discussion on where the supplies will be donated. Semester long service events that will be offered through KPK are Adopt-A-School and Project MORE. Adopt-A-School provides KPKers with the opportunity to tutor students at nearby Graham Expeditionary Middle School and Graham Primary School. Project MORE is a program that takes place at Granby Elementary School once a week. A KPKer will work with a student in 1st-4th grade who is reading below benchmark. Both of these are great ways for future teachers to gain valuable classroom experience. More information including training session information for each will be provided at the first meeting. If you have any questions about service please contact Lauren Kinsey (Kinsey.117) or Mallory Reed (Reed.1458). Molly Phillips - Recruitment: Bring friends to the involvement fair to learn more about KPK! More information regarding recruitment for KPK to follow! Miki Kussmaul - Initiate: First meeting for initiates will take place at 8 p.m. after the general member meeting at 7 p.m. on August 28, 2017 in Lazenby Hall Room 034. This is where those interested in joining our organization will receive a bulk of information regarding the group and how to join. Let’s welcome all the new potential initiates with open arms and show them how awesome KPK is! Any questions regarding the initiation process can be directed to Miki Kussmaul, Initiate Chair ([email protected]) Jess Schell - Apparel: The *free* beginning of the year t-shirts will be in on the 22nd! Bailey Lytle - Historian: Follow KPK on Twitter (@KPK_OSU) and Instagram (@kpk_osu) to earn surprise bonus points throughout the semester! Anna Yoder – Treasurer: Stay tuned for announcements concerning dues and fundraisers! Good luck with the start of classes! Snack Packs will be due at the October 10th meeting, which will be at 6pm in the Union Creative Arts Room! Snack packs must be bagged and labeled correctly for you to receive your SERVICE point!
