KPK Terminology and Policy:
Initiate
KPK initiates are those who start coming to our meetings at the beginning of the fall or spring semester. Initiates are encouraged to come to all of the KPK meetings and events held to get to know the other members and initiates. There are also initiate-specific events held for the initiates to get to know each other. These events can contribute to points status (for example, an initiate bonding event would count as a social point). At the end of the semester, if initiates have reached their required amount of points and paid their dues, they will be initiated into KPK. In the interim, KPK initiates will have a separate group chat from the current KPK members where our Initiate Chair(s) will relay important information such as newsletters, meeting reminders, etc.
Probation vs. Non-Probation Status

Maintaining the Integrity and Purpose of Kappa Phi Kappa
The purpose of Kappa Phi Kappa is to encourage networking and camaraderie among a group of individuals who value education and are devoted to working in the profession of education. Our members should be collaborating TOGETHER, attending events TOGETHER, and getting to know one another via the events that KPK plans. Therefore, events should be communal, meaning they have a large number participating and that they promote group effort or involvement. It is the President and Vice President’s job to make sure that all other officers are adhering to the foundational values of KPK. Events should be well-planned, organized, thoughtful, innovative, educational, and interactive, while catering to the needs of KPK as well as the educational community. KPK is a professional education student organization and so we must uphold our professionalism in every event, activity, meeting or gathering. Remember that when a member attends events, they are there on behalf of KPK and are representing the organization. If there is an issue, the VP should be the one to address unacceptable member or officer behavior and discuss it with both that member and the President and document every incident.

Probation vs. Non-Probation Status
Probation status:
- This option requires that you fulfill the active membership requirements for the upcoming fall semester (i.e. pay dues and earn the minimum 12 points) in order to regain your active member status.
- Failure to do so will result in becoming inactive in the organization of Kappa Phi Kappa. You may then place their names on the inactive ‘Ex-member’ list below and record the outstanding fees of that member.
- Students may not receive honors status as a probation status declarant. Therefore, they are required to pay full dues.
Honors:
- Students receive honors points if they earn three additional points (above the minimum of 8 points) in TWO separate categories.
- For example: If a student, who has already completed all of their required 8 points and attends one additional fundraiser plus an extra social, they will receive honors status.
- Students DO NOT get honors if they go above and beyond the point requirement in one category, but fail to meet their requirements in the others.
- Students with honors status earn reduced dues the following semester.
What should I do if I am concerned about earning enough points?
- Please contact the President or VP if you have any concerns about getting all of your points!
